+WHAT WE LOVE:
One of Rolex's heavy-hitting deep dive watches, the Deepsea comes from a long line of watches designed for the specific purpose of going as deep as possible. In 1960 the crown created an experimental watch known as the Deepsea Special, a ridiculous oversized device with a half-dome sapphire crystal. Strapped to the side of the Bathyscaphe Trieste on its 10,911 metre dive into the Mariana trench, it had now cemented itself as part of a near-mythical tale of human exploration and determination.
In 2012, filmmaker James Cameron would repeat this great endeavour, this time solo. Once again, an experimental Rolex would be accompanying him to the bottom of the abyss. The Deepsea we have here, featuring the gradient 'D-Blue' dial has now become Cameron's horological calling card of sorts, a testament to the crown's incredible watchmaking ability.
